Guyanese law students once again brought pride to their homeland at the Hugh Wooding Law School Graduation Ceremony, held on Saturday evening in Trinidad. Of the 200 graduates who completed the two-year Legal Education Certificate (LEC) program, an impressive 42 were from Guyana — underscoring the country’s growing influence within the Caribbean legal fraternity.

The large Guyanese cohort is a testament to the nation’s ongoing investment in higher education and its commitment to strengthening the regional justice system.

Among the graduates was Nia Williams, who described the journey as both challenging and rewarding. She expressed immense gratitude to her family, lecturers, and peers for their unwavering support throughout her studies.

“My intention is to dip my toe into the different fields and see which one I like the most,” Williams said, noting her unique background in the creative arts industry. “I’m hoping to play a key role within the expansion of the intellectual property law sector.”

Williams also offered advice to aspiring law students, encouraging them to maintain a sense of balance and versatility while pursuing their careers.

“Don’t allow law to be your entire life,” she advised. “It’s important to have balance and a bit of versatility in your life.”

The achievement of these 42 Guyanese graduates represents more than personal triumph — it reflects a continued strengthening of Guyana’s legal capacity and its contribution to the Caribbean’s evolving legal landscape.

The Ministry of Legal Affairs and other stakeholders have since extended congratulations to the graduates, emphasizing that their success will play a pivotal role in advancing justice, governance, and professional excellence across Guyana.
