HGP Nightly News – The Hydrometeorological Service has warned that Guyana faces several days of unstable weather, with widespread rainfall and thunderstorms expected to intensify flooding in vulnerable communities.
Satellite and radar data from March 23 show heavy precipitation already building across the country. Officials say the pattern is being driven by strong trade winds and unstable atmospheric conditions, creating an environment ripe for frequent showers, downpours, and lightning storms.
The forecast outlook indicates that unsettled weather will persist through March 28, bringing:
- Heavy rainfall across most regions
- Thunderstorms, especially in the mornings and early afternoons
- Reduced visibility during intense showers
- Localized flooding in low-lying and poorly drained areas
Potential impacts include waterlogged roads, hazardous driving conditions, disruptions to outdoor activities, and risks from gusty winds and lightning Authorities caution that the rains could worsen existing flooding in communities already struggling with water accumulation. Families in flood-prone areas are urged to take precautions, while drivers are advised to exercise extreme care on slick and submerged roadways.
The National Weather Watch Center has pledged to continue monitoring the situation closely and issue bulletins as needed.
