GOVERNMENT FINALIZING PLANS FOR ROSE HALL AIRSTRIP – PRESIDENT ALI

The Government of Guyana is pressing ahead with an ambitious infrastructure transformation plan for Region Six, including the long-awaited development of the Rose Hall Airstrip.

President Irfaan Ali, speaking Tuesday at the opening of the Berbice Development Summit, confirmed that the technical document for the airstrip project is now being finalised and that Expressions of Interest (EOIs) will soon be issued.

The President described the Rose Hall Airstrip as a key pillar in a broader network of major development projects that will position Berbice as the next central hub of national economic growth.

He noted that the comprehensive infrastructure build-out includes:

  • A deep-water port,
  • A new high-span Berbice River Bridge,
  • Upgraded road networks, including a four-lane corridor from New Amsterdam to Moleson Creek,
  • Two Hope-like canals to unlock hundreds of thousands of acres for agriculture, and
  • The Corentyne River Bridge, which will link Guyana and Suriname.

Additionally, Berbice is set for widespread expansion with plans for new housing developments, modern sporting facilities, farm-to-market roads, and upgraded connections to riverine communities such as Orealla and Siparuta.

President Ali emphasized that the scale of these projects would usually require over a decade of planning in a country the size of Guyana. Still, the government is working to complete them within five years.

As part of a broader enhancement of Guyana’s aviation capacity, the government will also transform the Lethem Aerodrome into a municipal airport and upgrade the Anna Regina Airstrip.

President Ali stated that the goal is to make Guyana “the world’s hottest destination for agro-processing and food production,” supported by enhanced logistics, connectivity, and industrial infrastructure.

He further revealed that Berbice will soon see additional major investments, including:

  • A new gas project,
  • Data centres,
  • A second gas plant, and
  • A modern deep-water port.

These transformative projects, the President explained, will firmly position Berbice as Guyana’s next frontier of development and economic expansion.
