GDF OFFICER INJURED IN PLANE CRASH IN TURKS AND CAICOS

GEORGETOWN, Guyana — A Guyana Defence Force (GDF) officer is recovering overseas after being involved in a plane crash in the Turks and Caicos Islands earlier this week.

The GDF confirmed that Captain Dwight Bonus was injured in a single-engine aircraft accident in Providenciales on Tuesday, July 29, while on personal vacation. He was medically evacuated shortly after the incident and is currently receiving treatment. His condition has been described as stable.

Details surrounding the crash remain limited, but the GDF says it is in contact with authorities in the Turks and Caicos and is closely monitoring the situation.

In a brief statement, the Defence Force extended well wishes to the officer and his family, noting, “Our thoughts are with Captain Bonus and his family during this time, and we extend our support for his full recovery.”

Captain Bonus is a known figure within the GDF, and news of the accident has drawn concern and support from colleagues and the wider military community. While the investigation into the crash is ongoing, the incident has served as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of air travel — even for those with professional discipline and training.

The GDF has not indicated when or if Bonus will return home but assured the public that it will provide updates as necessary.
