FORWARD GUYANA MOVEMENT SEES A NEW GUYANA ON THE HORIZON – AMANZA WALTON-DESIR

FGM’s Amanza Walton-Desir: “Growth Without Inclusion is Failing Ordinary Guyanese”

By Marvin Cato | HGP Nightly News

Forward Guyana Movement (FGM) presidential candidate Amanza Walton-Desir has criticized the current state of the economy, arguing that despite Guyana being ranked among the world’s fastest-growing economies over the past five years, ordinary citizens are not seeing the benefits.

Speaking on Guyana Business Journal, Walton-Desir said the economic boom has created “growth without inclusion,” where wealth is concentrated among the top 1–2% while large sections of the population continue to struggle. “It pains me to see the conditions in which so many of our people live. On paper, things look good, but the reality is not reaching the ordinary Guyanese,” she said.

She described the situation as a paradox of “poverty amid plenty,” which she linked to what she calls a broken system of governance. According to Walton-Desir, Guyanese citizens are often forced to compromise their dignity and standards to participate in the economy, but even then, their participation is not meaningful.

The FGM leader stressed that fundamental transformation requires rebuilding the system itself. “Everything that Guyanese need, hope for, and dream of must be delivered within a fair system. When one political party with 51% of the vote has 100% of the power, it leaves no room for inclusivity,” she argued.

With the September 1 elections approaching, Walton-Desir said the Forward Guyana Movement has activated its ground campaign to challenge the dominance of Guyana’s established political parties.
