HGP Nightly News – A Pineapple Street, East Ruimveldt family is now counting heavy losses after an early morning explosion, suspected to have been caused by a gas leak, tore through their home and left sections of the building badly damaged. The blast, which occurred in the pre-dawn hours, reportedly caused multiple parts of the house to collapse and sent one occupant to hospital, while two children inside escaped without injury.
According to resident Melissa Alleyne, the frightening incident unfolded at about 02:30 hrs after she noticed a strong smell of gas inside the house. She said she alerted her husband, who then went downstairs to check the kitchen area. Moments later, there was an explosion, which caused extensive destruction to the home and left the family in shock.
Reports indicate that several rooms were badly affected, with sections of the structure collapsing under the force of the blast. While two children who were inside the house were not injured, Melissa Alleyne’s husband, Troy Alleyne, was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital for treatment. The extent of his injuries was not immediately clear, but the incident has left the family dealing with both physical and financial hardship.
The damage to the property is estimated to be in the millions, as the blast severely affected the building’s structure and raised concerns about the safety of what remains standing. Investigations are expected to determine the exact cause of the explosion and assess whether the rest of the house is still structurally sound. For now, the incident has added to growing concern about the dangers posed by suspected gas leaks in residential areas.
