GEORGETOWN, GUYANA – The Ministry of Education hosted a vibrant two-day Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Exhibition, featuring over 40 entities across various sectors, including energy, agriculture, health, and technology, with a focus on empowering youth and showcasing skills for the future.
Held at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre in Liliendaal, the event was themed: “Empowering Youths, Elevating Skills: TVET as a Catalyst for Inclusion.”
Students Showcased Practical Innovations
Among the student-led exhibits was a virtual office administration setup created by a trainee from the Guyana Industrial Training Centre (GITC). The student explained how the model simulated real-world office functions such as document creation, filing, and digital communication, reflecting the increasing demand for business support professionals with tech-based competencies.
“This virtual office space represents how I see the modern world of work evolving. It’s all about efficiency and technology,” the student shared.
Industry Leaders Embrace Sustainability and Innovation
The Machinery Corporation of Guyana (MACORP) demonstrated its C18 ACERT heavy equipment engine, a tool designed to reduce fuel consumption and lower carbon emissions, a key part of Guyana’s broader green energy transition.
“It’s not just about performance. It’s about environmental responsibility,” said Hugh Griffith, trainer for electric power generation at MACORP.
Farming Tools and Climate-Smart Agriculture Featured
The National Agriculture Research and Extension Institute (NAREI) highlighted innovations in soil testing and water quality assessment, critical tools for farmers navigating climate-related challenges. Allison James, a soil management specialist, showcased equipment that tests pH levels, salt concentration, and other indicators vital to precision agriculture.
“The response from students, especially those interested in agri-science, has been overwhelming. It’s exciting to see young people asking about soil composition and water quality,” James noted.
The exhibition offered interactive learning opportunities and introduced students to career paths in sectors that are shaping Guyana’s future. From green technologies to agricultural innovation, the event reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to building a skilled, inclusive, and future-ready workforce.
