EU EOM OBSERVER MISSION WARNS OF INCUMBENCY ADVANTAGE, WEAK TRANSPARENCY IN GUYANA’S ELECTORAL SYSTEM

The European Union’s Election Observation Mission has delivered its preliminary findings on Guyana’s 2025 General and Regional Elections.

While the EU EOM concluded that the polls were peaceful and orderly, it raised troubling concerns about the deep political polarization in Guyana, coupled with a lack of transparency in parts of the process.

The mission also flagged the significant incumbency advantage enjoyed by the ruling party, warning that this undermined public confidence in the credibility of the elections.

Observers stressed that unless these issues are addressed through reforms and stronger safeguards, Guyana’s democratic process will continue to face challenges.
