Leader of the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) and Member of Parliament, Azruddin Mohamed, has accused the government of deceiving residents of Region Three, claiming that a multimillion-dollar day-and-night care facility has remained closed since its commissioning and has failed to serve the community for which it was built.
Speaking at the site, Mohamed described the $94 million facility as a “white elephant,” alleging it was constructed primarily for electoral gain rather than genuine service delivery. According to the WIN leader, although the building was officially commissioned on August 8, 2025, it has not operated for a single day.
Mohamed said the facility was promoted as a transformative initiative intended to support working mothers and provide safe, round-the-clock care for children in the region. However, he contends that those promises have not materialised.
“There are no children inside, no mothers being helped—only concrete, paint, overgrown bushes and broken promises,” Mohamed said, pointing to what he described as abandonment and neglect of the site.
He argued that, despite the public expenditure and ceremonial speeches surrounding the project’s launch, the reality on the ground is a completed structure left idle, with its surroundings overgrown. The MP maintained that the facility’s continued closure represents a failure of governance and accountability, particularly in a region where access to affordable childcare remains a pressing need.
The government has not yet responded to the claims. As public scrutiny grows, questions persist over when—or if—the facility will become operational and deliver the services originally promised to the people of Region Three.
