CITIZENS MUST BE FREE TO SUPPORT THEIR POLITICAL PARTY OF THEIR CHOOSING VOID OF VICTIMISATION- CORBIN TELLS PPP/C TO STOP ITS WITCH-HUNTING

Young APNU Candidate Eden Corbin Speaks Out Against Victimization, Calls for Political Maturity

GEORGETOWN, GUYANA โ€“ Eden Corbin, a 27-year-old attorney-in-waiting and one of the newest faces in A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), says he is both humbled by the nationwide support for his party and deeply concerned about what he describes as widespread political victimization of youths and public servants.

Speaking exclusively to HGP Nightly News, Corbin said he has been โ€œreally impressedโ€ by the outpouring of love and encouragement he has received in communities across the country.

โ€œPersons are supportive of the party. Theyโ€™re hopeful, and theyโ€™re praying for our victory,โ€ Corbin shared.

However, he warned that fear still lingers among many young people who are hesitant to publicly show their political support.

โ€œA lot of youths are worried and scared about openly supporting the party. In a true democracy, citizens should be able to support a political party of their choice without fear,โ€ Corbin emphasized.

According to the APNU candidate, public servants โ€” particularly young professionals โ€” fear losing opportunities for promotions or job vacancies if they are perceived as not aligned with the ruling Peopleโ€™s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C). He described this as a dangerous culture that undermines democracy.

Corbin, a well-known youth advocate and former Youth Parliamentarian, said the support he has received has been โ€œpure and genuine,โ€ cutting across ethnic and political lines. He believes this indicates that Guyana is slowly moving towards political maturity, where people can disagree respectfully without hostility.

โ€œItโ€™s not just one ethnic group โ€” itโ€™s persons from all walks of life,โ€ Corbin said, adding that โ€œcondescending politics should be a thing of the past.โ€

He also cautioned that leadership must be about service, not entitlement or manipulation, calling on the government to treat all citizens fairly regardless of their political allegiance.
