As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, the North Ruimveldt Multilateral Secondary School hosted a career fair today, bringing together students, alumni, and international partners — including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) — in an event designed to inspire the next generation of leaders.
The fair highlighted the institution’s proud legacy, including its iconic steelpan program, which alumni described as a cultural pillar of the school for decades.
“The steelpan has been a pinnacle of North Ruimveldt Multilateral. Everybody knows the North Ruimveldt steel band — I’m very proud to have been part of that program,” one alumnus reflected.
UNDP Resident Representative in Guyana, Katy Thompson, praised the students’ ambition and commitment to Guyana’s development.
“I’ve been talking to kids who want to be doctors, engineers, and entrepreneurs. I’m super impressed by how committed they are at such a young age to staying in Guyana, working for Guyana, and being successful,” she said.
The UNDP also announced plans to support the school through internship opportunities, aimed at channeling the creativity and enthusiasm of Guyanese youth into skills for the future.
A special feature of the day was an address by 1985 graduate, Nurse and Attorney Beverly Ross Trail-Fall, who encouraged students to stay focused and disciplined.
“I enjoy giving back to Multilateral because I love to inspire young people to dream big,” she shared.
The week-long anniversary celebration continues with a blend of cultural, academic, and celebratory events, reflecting on five decades of excellence while looking toward new opportunities for future generations.
