The New York Tri-State Chapter of the Bishop’s High School Alumni Association officially opened its four-day Student Conference and Career Fair on Monday at the Herdmanston Lodge and the school’s Carmichael Street campus, under the theme “Navigating Your Future Beyond High School.”

The event aims to empower students with mentorship, career guidance, and practical knowledge, helping them transition successfully into higher education and the workforce. Students participated in a range of virtual and in-person sessions, including a vibrant career fair and team-building exercises designed to enhance communication and leadership skills.

“I just want to urge you to take this opportunity to connect with people and to ask as many questions as you possibly can,” one mentor advised the attendees.

A significant highlight of the opening day was the speed mentoring session, which paired senior students with professionals and alumni from diverse fields — law, medicine, engineering, the arts, technology, and entrepreneurship.

“What stood out most to me was the incredible diversity of options that were presented,” one student remarked.

Alumni Chapter President Sharon Thomas noted that this year’s conference has expanded significantly, placing greater focus on emerging technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and employment readiness skills. She emphasized that beyond sparking curiosity, the sessions aim to create spaces for meaningful conversations between students and mentors.

Students shared that the workshops have already made a difference in shaping their personal and professional outlooks.

“With what I’ve learned from these workshops, I can now apply these skills in my daily life — for my development and my future,” one participant said.

The conference also includes a virtual component, connecting students with over 60 presenters from around the world on topics such as career development, STEM, business, arts and humanities, health and medicine, sports, and personal growth.

Headmistress Ms. Ena Welcome-Lee expressed heartfelt gratitude to the alumni for their continued support. At the same time, conference co-chairs Joan Davis-Voss and Janice Davis-Street commended the planning committee and facilitators for their dedication.

The four-day conference concludes on Friday, marking another milestone in the school’s ongoing efforts to prepare students for future success.
