Residents and business owners in Bartica are counting their losses after heavy rainfall lasting just about an hour and a half left the community underwater.
The flooding comes barely a month after more than $132 million was spent on major drainage works in the area, raising serious questions about the quality of the works executed and the accountability of contractors.
Shops, homes, and public spaces were inundated, with residents expressing frustration that, despite assurances, the new system failed after such a short downpour.
Community leaders are now calling on the authorities to launch a full investigation into the project, with some demanding immediate corrective works before the rainy season worsens.
