GUYANA — While many view business as a competitive arena, siblings Jasadia and Evander Assanah are demonstrating that collaboration can be just as powerful.
Through their respective enterprises, the brother-and-sister duo is creating opportunities for themselves while making a meaningful contribution to their community.
Nineteen-year-old Jasadia Assanah, proprietor of Jassay’s Educational Edge, said her passion for teaching began at a very young age, inspired by her father, who was a teacher.
“I have always been drawn to teaching mainly because my father was a teacher,” she explained, recalling how she improvised a classroom at home long before becoming an educator.
Now a Communication Studies student at the University of Guyana, Jasadia has transformed those childhood dreams into reality by offering hybrid educational services. Although balancing university, business, and personal commitments is challenging, she credits faith and effective time management for helping her succeed.
She also acknowledged the unwavering support of her family, particularly her older brother, who constantly encouraged her and promoted her business whenever she felt discouraged.
Creating a safe and welcoming learning environment remains one of her top priorities.
“I always let them know that it is okay to make mistakes because that’s the only way we learn,” she said, noting that strong communication and trust have helped her build excellent relationships with her students.

Meanwhile, 26-year-old Evander Assanah, proprietor of Bloomaire Creations, has established a growing event decoration business specializing in balloon décor for weddings, birthdays, and other special occasions.
The father of two also provides floral arrangements and plans to expand his services by introducing chair rentals for events.
Evander praised his sister for her significant role in marketing his business.
“She helped me a lot with the marketing, and I must commend her for that,” he said.
Outside of entrepreneurship, Evander is also making a name for himself in the local music industry under the stage name Sparvander.
He said his music is inspired by everyday life experiences and genuine emotions.
“When I jump on a beat, you must feel what I am saying because it comes from here,” he said.
According to the entertainer, the name “Sparvander” combines the spirit of “Sparta,” symbolizing resilience and determination, with his given name, Evander.
With aspirations of one day winning a Grammy Award, the emerging artiste hopes to inspire young Guyanese musicians to pursue their dreams while remaining authentic. He also credited his producer, Sonic, for helping shape his musical career.
Evander’s business can be accessed through Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, while his music is available on YouTube and other digital streaming platforms.
Together, the Assanah siblings continue to demonstrate that family support, determination, and collaboration can be powerful ingredients for entrepreneurial success while positively impacting their community.
