ARRIVAL DAY SHOULD INSPIRE FIGHT FOR ECONOMIC JUSTICE – APNU

HGP Nightly News – The PNCR/APNU has used its Arrival Day message to call for national unity, economic justice and greater accountability, while honouring the sacrifices of indentured labourers whose descendants continue to shape Guyana’s identity.

In its message, the party extended greetings to all Guyanese, especially the descendants of those who came to Guyana as indentured labourers. It said their courage, resilience and sacrifice helped lay the foundation of the nation and remain part of Guyana’s cultural heritage.

According to the PNCR/APNU, Arrival Day is not only a moment of remembrance, but also one of reflection. The party said the occasion recalls a painful period in Guyana’s history, when men and women endured hardship in search of dignity and a better life.

The party noted that while indentureship followed the end of slavery, it also created new forms of struggle for those who laboured under difficult conditions.

However, the PNCR/APNU used the occasion to draw a link between the struggles of the past and what it described as the hardships many Guyanese continue to face today.

The opposition party criticised the current administration, accusing it of poor governance, lack of accountability and mismanagement of the country’s oil wealth. It said the result has been a widening gap between the rich and the poor, while many citizens continue to live without basic amenities.

“This is not the promise our foreparents laboured for,” the party stated.

The PNCR/APNU said that although the physical chains of bondage have long been broken, many Guyanese remain restricted by policies that it claims continue to create economic hardship and limit opportunity.

According to the party, the struggle for true freedom is therefore not over.

It called on Guyanese across race, class and creed to unite in a renewed national effort. The party urged citizens to reject division and complacency, confront what it described as mental slavery, demand accountability and work together for economic justice.

The PNCR/APNU said Arrival Day should serve as a reminder that dignity, equality and prosperity must not be reserved for a few, but secured as rights for all citizens.

“As we honour the sacrifices of those who came before us, let us commit ourselves to building a Guyana where dignity, equality, and prosperity are not privileges for a few, but rights for all,” the party said.

The message ended with the party wishing Guyana a happy Arrival Day and calling on citizens to continue the struggle together.
