Simona Brooms, leader of the Assembly for Liberty and Prosperity (ALP), on Monday declared her party “confident and ready” to contest in six administrative regions at the upcoming general and regional elections scheduled for September 1, 2025.
“We’re not only confident, but we are ready,” Brooms stated during her remarks, adding that the party has fulfilled the requirements for top-up seats.
The ALP will be contesting in all regions except Regions 1, 2, 8, and 9. Brooms explained that delays in accessing the Guyana Elections Commission’s (GECOM) requirements impacted the party’s ability to gather the needed signatures in those regions.
“You want to be able to compete where you’re comfortable, you’re confident, and you know that you were able to get it done. We want to come with transparency and integrity. We want to make sure we get it right,” she emphasized.
Highlighting the youth-driven nature of the ALP’s list of candidates, Brooms pointed to a strong showing from young individuals determined to combat poverty and bring about real, community-rooted change.
“We have a lot of young people on the list… real people from these communities coming forward to bring that good change,” she said.
The party has not yet announced a prime ministerial candidate, but Brooms assured that the team is focused on delivering honest representation and addressing the everyday struggles of Guyanese citizens.
