$700M SCHOOL ALREADY FAILING? WIN ALLEGES LEAKS AT BRICKDAM SECONDARY, SCHOOL SAYS ISSUE FIXED

HGP Nightly News – A new political storm is brewing over Brickdam Secondary School after WIN claimed the recently commissioned facility is already showing serious defects, while the school’s administration insists the incident has been misrepresented and was quickly resolved.

In a statement, We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) said Brickdam Secondary, commissioned in July 2025 at an estimated cost of $700 million, is “already showing structural defects” less than a year after completion. WIN alleged that staff and students have branded the compound a “dry weather school,” claiming that rainfall triggers leaks across the largely prefabricated structure, including in key spaces such as the IT lab and the library. WIN also said the school had no running water on the day of its visit, describing the conditions as unacceptable and raising questions about oversight, quality control, and value for money. The party further claimed it has video evidence to support its assertions.

But in an official clarification, the school’s administration pushed back sharply, saying reports of “structural issues” are “inaccurate and misleading.” According to the administration, once the matter reached the Headmistress it was reported to the Ministry of Education on Sunday, January 11, 2026. A plumber, the statement said, attended the school the same day, and the issue was “fully resolved” by Monday, January 12.

The administration maintained that the incident was not structural. Instead, it said the problem stemmed from damage to a catchment beneath sinks in the female washrooms, combined with taps being left on during a period of low water pressure on Friday. When water pressure returned over the weekend, the statement explained, the unattended water flow led to an overflow that damaged the ceiling on the lower floor.

The competing accounts have now put a spotlight on the condition of a major new public school project, with WIN framing the matter as another test of accountability in public spending, and the administration arguing the situation was a contained plumbing issue that has already been fixed.
