The University of Guyana’s Turkeyen Campus came alive this week as hundreds of new and returning students joined faculty and staff for the ceremonial opening of the academic year.
Rows of chairs and lively booths filled the venue, transforming the campus into a hub of energy and anticipation. The booths, hosted by student clubs, societies, and organizations, showcased the wide range of opportunities available beyond the classroom—from cultural and academic groups to sports and social clubs.
One enthusiastic student shared:
“First, I’d like to support my club, Campus Crusade Club. To any new student, do your best, enjoy the semester, and enjoy working with people—it’s a fun experience.”
Commitment to Growth
University officials used the occasion to formally welcome students, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and leadership development.
“We commit at our university to ensure that your experience is one that will allow for the promotion and enhancement of a student-focused and student-friendly environment,” one official emphasized.
Student Excitement
The day’s festive atmosphere, supported by music, lively conversations, and laughter, reflected a spirit of unity that defines the University of Guyana community. Students eagerly signed up for clubs, engaged with displays, and connected with peers, marking not just the start of a new semester, but a year full of discovery, achievement, and progress.
