Spirit of Diwali Shines Bright at the University of Guyana Campus

The University of Guyana’s Hindu Society brought the campus to life on Friday evening with a vibrant Diwali celebration that united students of all backgrounds through culture, creativity, and community.

The highlight of the night was a Rangoli Competition, where colorful rice and sand designs illuminated the campus, symbolizing light, positivity, and harmony.

President of the Hindu Society, Pushpa Samaroo, shared that the initiative was inspired by past executives who began the tradition years ago.

“I thought it was a good way to incorporate our culture and have people from different backgrounds come together to celebrate Diwali,” she said, crediting teamwork and the dedication of the executive members for the event’s success.

Public Relations Officer Alex Lamb also emphasized the importance of community partnerships that made the event possible.

“We reached out to local businesses for support, and with the help of our members and executives, it all came together beautifully,” he explained.

The evening’s festivities showcased the inclusive and unifying spirit of Diwali, reminding participants that the festival of lights transcends religion and culture, shining brightest when celebrated together in unity and joy.
