HGP NIGHTLY NEWS – Six cutlasses are now among the exhibits in police custody as investigators continue trying to piece together exactly what happened to six-year-old Orlando Jaikarran.
The Guyana Police Force disclosed that the cutlasses, along with other items described as being of evidential value, were recovered during a search of a residence at Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice.
Police have not publicly established whether any of the cutlasses were used in Orlando’s killing. The items have been lodged as exhibits as investigators continue their inquiries.
The latest development comes as Orlando’s father, Bharrat Jaikarran, remains in custody. He has reportedly confessed to killing his son and is expected to make his first court appearance by the end of the week.
A Hindu priest, known as a pujari, was also taken into custody as part of the investigation.
Police said two males remain in custody assisting investigators, although their identities and the precise nature of their alleged involvement have not been disclosed.
Meanwhile, a post-mortem examination has failed to provide investigators with a conclusive cause of death.
According to police, the examination was inconclusive because Orlando’s remains were already in an advanced state of decomposition when they were recovered.
The six-year-old’s badly decomposed body was discovered in the Sea Dam Canal at Bath Settlement after he had been reported missing.
The case has triggered widespread outrage across Guyana, with renewed public calls for the death penalty and demands for severe punishment for those ultimately found responsible for the child’s killing.
But as investigators examine the newly recovered exhibits, several crucial questions surrounding Orlando’s death remain unanswered, including precisely how he was killed and whether anyone else played a role.
