GEORGETOWN, GUYANA — The high-stakes 2020 Election Fraud Trial reached a significant procedural milestone on Friday, February 27, 2026. Day 57 was marked by a vigorous cross-examination of several high-ranking police officers, led by defense attorney Eusi Anderson, as the court continues to determine the admissibility of key evidence in the ongoing voir dire.
The proceedings, held before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty, focus on the statements and evidence relating to former GECOM staffers Denise Babb-Cummings and Sheffern February.
Defense Cross-Examines the Major Crimes Unit
With attorney Eusi Anderson back in the jurisdiction, the defense launched a technical challenge against the testimonies provided by the state’s police witnesses. The morning session saw several officers return to the stand for cross-examination.
The defense’s line of questioning aimed to scrutinize the methods used during the 2020 post-election investigations and the circumstances under which statements were obtained from the accused GECOM staff.
Benn’s Testimony Paused: A Surprise Adjournment
A key highlight expected for Friday afternoon was the conclusion of testimony from Robeson Benn, former Minister of Home Affairs and current Senior Advisor. Benn had previously detailed “widespread disruptions” at the Ashmins Building, including the controversial use of spreadsheets and the physical blocking of the GECOM Chairperson.
However, the prosecution informed the court that Benn was unable to attend the afternoon session. As a result, the matter was adjourned, leaving his evidence-in-chief and subsequent cross-examination for a future date.
