NINE-YEAR-OLD KILLED IN CRABWOOD CREEK HIT-AND-RUN — DRIVER FLEES THE SCENE

CRABWOOD CREEK, GUYANA – August 6, 2025 — What began as a routine walk to the shop ended in tragedy for nine-year-old Sahil Naipaul, who was struck and killed by a speeding car just moments after being seen safely near home.

His mother, 24-year-old Devi Ramkissoon, is now mourning the sudden and violent loss of her only child—and calling for justice.

“He was just coming back from the shop,” Devi said tearfully. “His stepfather made sure he was close to home before turning back. Then just like that… everything changed.”

According to Devi, she was still at home when neighbours rushed over to tell her the unthinkable: Sahil had been hit by a car, its driver gone without offering help. The vehicle, bearing licence plate PAK 6593, was reportedly driven by a 21-year-old resident of nearby Grant 1803.

By the time Devi arrived at the scene, Sahil’s lifeless body was in a trench.

He was taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital, where doctors confirmed what no mother wants to hear—Sahil was dead.

The boy was a student at Crabwood Creek Primary School. Friends say he was kind, smart, and always ready with a smile.

Eyewitnesses told police the driver was overtaking another vehicle when he lost control, veering into the corner and slamming into Sahil. The force of the impact flung the child into the trench. The driver reportedly fled without checking on the boy.

“I want justice for my son,” Devi said, her voice breaking. “He didn’t deserve to die like that, left there with no one helping him.”

Police have since located the driver, who is in custody as investigations continue.

As the Crabwood Creek community reels from the tragedy, questions are mounting about road safety and driver accountability—especially when it comes to protecting children.
