NEW REQUIREMENTS FOR PPP/C CABINET MEMBERS SHOULD THE PARTY BE RE-ELECTED TO GOVERNMENT– JAGDEO

Cabinet Reshuffle on the Horizon: Jagdeo Signals New Standards for PPP/C Ministers

General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C), Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, has confirmed that new requirements are being finalized for selecting the next Cabinet should the party return to government after the September 1 elections.

Jagdeo emphasized that while the final Cabinet selection rests with President Irfaan Ali, there will be a strong emphasis on performance, competence, and alignment with the party’s vision.

“The president chooses the Cabinet… and in my view, performance, suitability, and skill are critical,” Jagdeo stated.

Focus on Results, Not Size

The PPP/C general secretary clarified that the party has no intention of increasing the number of ministries, but will instead focus on organizational efficiency and restructuring.

“It’s not about expanding ministries. It’s about working differently—more effectively—to better serve citizens,” he explained.

This may include workload reassignments, strategic reorganizations, and enhanced tools for delivery, rather than an indication that current ministers have failed.

“It’s not necessarily a reflection of failure. Every government must review its operations and make changes where needed,” Jagdeo said.

Full Steam Ahead to the Polls

The remarks come as the PPP/C launched its re-election campaign last Sunday at the Kitty Market, followed by the formal submission of its list of candidates to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM). The list was approved, allowing the party to contest the upcoming elections fully.

Jagdeo’s statements hint at a more performance-driven and strategic approach to the Cabinet in the party’s next term, should it secure victory at the polls.
