HGP Nightly News – Father of Azruddin Mohamed, Nazar Mohamed, has written to National Assembly Speaker Manzoor Nadir demanding a public apology, accusing him of using a national address to smear his son with what he described as reckless and defamatory claims.
In a strongly worded letter dated after the Speaker’s January 20, 2026 address to the nation, Mohamed said he was compelled to respond after what he described as “reckless, abusive and malicious” statements aimed at Azruddin Mohamed, the presumptive Leader of the Opposition.
He argued that the Speaker crossed a dangerous line by invoking imagery linked to drugs, criminality and notorious figures, claims he insists are unsupported by evidence. Mohamed rejected assertions made by the Speaker and senior government officials, including Irfaan Ali, Bharrat Jagdeo, and Anil Nandlall, describing them as fabrications that have never been confirmed by United States authorities.
He questioned why, if such serious allegations truly existed, no criminal charges or prosecutions have been pursued in Guyana. According to Mohamed, the publicly available US actions involving Azruddin Mohamed relate to alleged tax matters and do not include accusations of drug trafficking, cartel involvement, or narcotics proceeds.
He further disputed claims about Azruddin Mohamed’s links to a referenced company, insisting that he has no operational role, receives no salary, and runs separate business interests. The letter also takes aim at what Mohamed described as the selective repetition of sensational media narratives, arguing that early reporting was never substantiated in final allegations.
He said the Speaker’s decision to echo those claims from the Chair of the National Assembly represented a serious breach of neutrality and restraint. Adding a personal dimension, Mohamed said the remarks amounted to a betrayal, claiming that Azruddin Mohamed had previously treated the Speaker and his family with respect and goodwill.
He described the statements as deeply offensive and corrosive to public trust. Mohamed has now formally called on the Speaker to issue a full and unqualified public apology to Azruddin Mohamed and to the people of Guyana, warning that reckless innuendo from the nation’s highest parliamentary office undermines the integrity of Parliament itself.
