GEORGETOWN, GUYANA — Fathers from across Guyana will take center stage this Sunday evening when the National Cultural Centre (NCC) hosts the highly anticipated seventh edition of Dedication to Daddy, a signature Father’s Day cultural extravaganza curated by acclaimed Guyanese actress, playwright, and award-winning director Sheron Cadogan-Taylor.
The annual event, which has solidified its position as a cherished national tradition, is intentionally engineered to honor and uplift fathers and male mentors whose deep sacrifices, structural continuity, and family dedication frequently go unrecognized in mainstream narratives. This year’s milestone production promises an intricate blend of theatrical drama, live musical renditions, and reflective storytelling designed to emphasize the critical role paternal figures play in stabilizing local households.
Speaking in an exclusive sit-down with Nightly News, Cadogan-Taylor explained that she originally founded the showcase out of an urgent desire to actively challenge and dismantle pervasive negative stereotypes frequently associated with local men and fatherhood.
“We began honouring fathers because when we look around, even today, there’s so much negativity regarding our menfolk,” Cadogan-Taylor observed. “The ones who are really working behind the scenes to ensure that their families are okay, that they stick with the program and do what is supposed to be done as a man and as a father figure—we’re not seeing those. So what we started doing is asking people to recommend fathers to us who we can honour on the show.”
A core focal point of the evening will be a special honors segment paying direct tribute to single fathers who have successfully navigated acute socio-economic challenges to raise their children independently. Organizers have relied heavily on community-backed recommendations to select these uncelebrated grassroots heroes, who will be brought on stage for a series of surprise presentations.
This year’s theatrical showcase is centered around the deeply resonant theme, “Like Father, Like Son.” The dramatic script meticulously examines the psychological and behavioral blueprints passed down across generations, illustrating how young boys mirror and mimic the actions, language, and moral discipline of the men who lead their households.
The powerhouse local cast features veteran actor Romell Edmondson anchoring the production as the father, starring alongside Marissa Morgan-Bonnie in the role of the mother. Captivating performances are also expected from Keisha Sam, who portrays the daughter, while Nelan Benjamin delivers a focal performance as the son. Adding a fresh dynamic to the familial script, the production will introduce actress Tacoma Austin to the NCC stage for the first time, stepping into the role of Nelan’s on-stage wife.
To set an elegant, premium ambiance for the evening, all fathers crossing the threshold of the National Cultural Centre will be greeted at the door with a complimentary glass of fine wine.
The curtains are scheduled to rise promptly at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, 2026. General admission tickets are priced accessibly at G$3,000, while VIP tickets are retailing for G$6,000—a premium tier that grants patrons exclusive entry to an elegant pre-show cocktail reception. Tickets can be purchased directly from individual cast members, the H&T Theatre Arts Group organizational office, or at the National Cultural Centre box office.
