GEORGETOWN, GUYANA — Despite a week defined by technical complaints and “slothful” system speeds, the government’s $100,000 National Cash Grant rollout has reached a major financial milestone. Senior Minister with responsibility for Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh, announced on Monday that the first major wave of successful self-registrants is now seeing money hit their accounts.

As of March 30, 2026, over 26,000 citizens have successfully navigated the three-stage digital portal, with a significant portion of those already cleared for immediate payment.

The Numbers: 26,000 Registered, 13,000 Paid

Minister Singh provided a data-driven update to address the “harsh criticisms” from technical pundits and frustrated users.

  • Full Completion: 26,639 persons have successfully completed all three stages of registration: entering personal data, uploading identity documents/performing “liveness” checks, and submitting bank information.
  • In-Progress: An additional 22,611 persons have started the process and are currently at various stages of completion.
  • The 24-Hour Payout: Of the fully registered group, 13,168 persons have cleared backend verification. Dr. Singh confirmed their grants have been processed, with all expected to see the $100,000 credit in their bank accounts by the end of Tuesday.

The Wider Rollout: 62,000 Total Payments

When combined with the initial phase of the distribution, the government is reporting a rapid injection of liquidity into the local economy.

  1. Phase 1 (Public Sector): 48,858 government employees received their grants automatically via their salary bank accounts starting March 26.
  2. Phase 2 (Self-Registration): The 13,168 verified citizens from the portal now join that list.
  3. Grand Total: To date, 62,026 Guyanese have had their cash grants deposited directly into their bank accounts.

Addressing the “Kinks” and Traffic Jams

Minister Singh acknowledged that “heavy traffic” remains the primary hurdle for the cashgrant.gov.gy platform.

  • Peak Times: He encouraged citizens to avoid the “digital rush hour” and try accessing the platform at various times of the day (late night or early morning).
  • Finish the Job: The Minister made a direct appeal to the 22,000+ people currently stuck mid-application to log back in and finish their submissions to join the next payment batch.
  • Successive Batches: Payouts are not happening all at once; the Ministry is processing and depositing funds in successive batches as verification is completed.

A Digital Surge

With the government budgeting for over 600,000 citizens, the first 62,000 payments represent roughly 10% of the total goal achieved in less than a week. While the technical “hiccups” continue to provide fuel for political debate, the Ministry of Finance is pointing to the 13,000 new deposits as evidence that the system—however “slothful”—is ultimately delivering on its promise.
