Wellness and active lifestyles are being placed at the forefront of education in Guyana as the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) partner to roll out a nationwide initiative aimed at keeping children active, healthy, and prepared to thrive both physically and academically.
Officials expressed excitement at the program’s implementation, describing it as a direct fulfillment of President Irfaan Ali’s vision for holistic student development. The initiative promotes not just academics, but also physical and social growth, ensuring children benefit from teamwork, discipline, and healthier lifestyles.
The government has already invested in infrastructure and trained physical education teachers to provide meaningful physical development opportunities for every child.
“We want to have well-rounded human beings. Education is far more than just academics—it is about allowing talent to flourish,” one official emphasized.
President Ali previously stressed that physical activity is more than play, but a critical part of building the minds and bodies of future leaders. In the coming five years, greater emphasis will be placed on developing recreational facilities to complement academic learning.
