Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Hon. Priya Manickchand, on Tuesday met with officials of the Region Three Regional Democratic Council (RDC) as part of her ongoing national engagement with local governance bodies. The focus — strengthening coordination, leadership, and accountability in service delivery.
Minister Priya Manickchand continued her countrywide outreach to local governance structures on Tuesday — this time engaging with the Regional Democratic Council of the Essequibo Islands–West Demerara (Region Three).
During the meeting, Minister Manickchand underscored that strong and responsive local leadership is vital to improving community well-being and restoring public trust.
She reminded councilors that RDCs set the tone for service delivery at the regional level — and must operate with transparency, accountability, and a people-centered mindset.
Discussions focused on:
- improving efficiency in project execution,
- addressing infrastructure challenges, and
- enhancing support systems for residents.
The Minister further emphasized the need for closer coordination between the RDC, Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs), and central government agencies, to prevent duplication, reduce delays, and improve the overall quality of local governance.
She reaffirmed that the Ministry stands ready to support all levels of local government — but stressed that effective service delivery begins with committed local leadership and proactive collaboration.
Tuesday’s engagement forms part of an ongoing national series of consultations aimed at strengthening partnerships among regional and municipal bodies across Guyana.
