HGP Nightly News – Police are investigating a deadly three-vehicle crash on Union Public Road, West Coast Demerara, which claimed the lives of two young men in the early hours of Thursday morning. Dead are 21-year-old Michel Daniels and 23-year-old Miguel Daniels, both of Prospect, East Bank Demerara. The two men were occupants of motor car PAC 9853.
According to initial police enquiries, the fatal accident occurred at about 05:30 hrs on Thursday, April 2, 2026, and involved motor car PAC 9853, driven by a 23-year-old man of Moruca, Essequibo River; minibus BWW 4493, driven by a 39-year-old man of Harlem, West Coast Demerara; and motor car PAE 4787, driven by a 23-year-old man of Providence, East Bank Demerara.
Investigators say motor car PAC 9853 was travelling east along the northern side of the road at an alleged fast rate of speed when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The car is said to have crossed onto the southern side of the roadway, where it slammed head-on into minibus BWW 4493, which was travelling west along the southern side of the road.
In the chaos that followed, motor car PAE 4787, which was travelling behind the minibus, reportedly swerved after the initial collision, struck the left rear of the minibus, and then veered toward the corner of the road.
The violent collision left several persons injured. Police said the driver and occupants of motor car PAC 9853, the driver of the minibus, one passenger of the minibus, and the driver of motor car PAE 4787 all sustained injuries to their bodies.
They were rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital in both conscious and unconscious conditions. Michel Daniels and Miguel Daniels, however, were pronounced dead on arrival by the doctor on duty. Their bodies have since been taken to Ezekiel Funeral Parlour, where post-mortem examinations are expected to be conducted. Police also confirmed that CCTV footage of the crash was seen and obtained as part of the ongoing investigation.
The probe into the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident is continuing.
