Cricket – Women’s WCPL Final
The Barbados Royals Women claimed their third consecutive WCPL title, defeating the Guyana Amazon Warriors Women in a gripping encounter at Providence.

  • Chasing, the Royals survived a scare as rising star Ashmini Munisar took 3-21, but steady contributions from Courtney Webb (31), Kycia Knight (31), and Chamari Athapaththu (25, Player of the Series) saw them home with two balls to spare.
  • Aaliyah Alleyne was named Player of the Match for her unbeaten 17 (9) and figures of 1-32.
  • Individual awards: Most Runs – Chamari Athapaththu; Most Wickets – joint winners Ashmini Munisar and Laura Harris.
  • The victory was bittersweet, as usual captain Hayley Matthews underwent surgery for a shoulder injury that ruled her out of this year’s competition.

Squash
Guyana’s senior men’s and women’s squash teams have qualified for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Santo Domingo.

Despite a ninth-place finish at the Pan American Squash Championships in Brazil, Guyana ranked among the top five CAC-region teams, securing automatic qualification.

The national squad, coached by Ramon Chan-A-Sue, included Nicolette Fernandes, Alex Arjoon, Kirsten Gomes, Ashley Khalil, Jason-Ray Khalil, Samuel Ince-Carvalhal, and Mary Fung-A-Fat.

Badminton
Guyana’s national junior badminton players brought home four bronze medals at the CAREBACO Junior Individual Tournament 2025 in Barbados.

Medals were secured by:

  • Joel Rambirichie – Boys U-11 Singles.
  • Joel Rambirichie & Liam Brummell – Boys U-11 Doubles.
  • Mishka Beharry – U-19 Mixed Doubles.

The team was coached by Akili Haynes and Nkosi Beaton.

Football – Lady Jaguars Milestone
The Guyana U-20 Women’s National Team has broken into the top 10 of Concacaf rankings for the first time in history, climbing from 11th to 10th following their unbeaten run in the Concacaf U-20 Qualifiers earlier this year.

The campaign, staged in Antigua & Barbuda, earned the Lady Jags a place in the Championship Play-Offs in May. Officials hailed the achievement as part of a long-term push to reach the Top 50 in the world, Top 10 in Concacaf, and Top 5 in CFU.

The future looks promising as the U-14 girls’ team also impressed in the CFU Challenge Series, going unbeaten until the semifinals—signaling a vibrant new generation in women’s football.
