Victor Chandler paid a heartfelt tribute to his late wife, Dr. Dorothy Filmore Williams-Chandler, during her funeral service at St. Charles Roman Catholic Church in Tunapuna.
Dr. Chandler passed away on September 19, three weeks after being shot in an attempted carjacking.
Victor described their bond as inseparable, saying “I was 50% of her and she was 50% of me.”
The couple’s three children – Carlin, Chenise, and Perry – delivered the eulogy, recalling her unwavering support, organizational skills, and the values she instilled in them.
The service was attended by relatives, colleagues, friends, and students who came to honor her life.
Antigua and Barbuda –
A new U.S. State Department report has placed Antigua and Barbuda on its Tier 2 watch list for human trafficking, highlighting the vulnerability of foreign workers linked to Chinese and Cuban programs.
While the report noted improvements in government protections, no confirmed trafficking victims have been identified since 2019.
Concerns remain for approximately 72 Cuban medical professionals and Chinese construction workers who may be at risk of forced labor.
The Antiguan government has started reviewing contracts to ensure Cuban workers receive their full pay directly, but oversight of Chinese projects continues to be limited.

In Washington, the U.S. government faces the threat of a shutdown as Republicans and Democrats struggle to break a budget deadlock ahead of a midnight deadline.
The Republican-controlled Senate is set to vote on a temporary spending bill after an earlier attempt failed.
Democrats want the bill to extend health benefits for millions, while Republicans argue that issue should be addressed separately.
Federal agencies are preparing contingency plans to shut down offices and furlough thousands of workers if Congress fails to act before Wednesday’s deadline.
