Trinidad and Tobago: Mother of Three Gunned Down in Senseless Killing
A 34-year-old mother of three, Valene Vanessa Campbell, was shot and killed in Enterprise, Chaguanas, Trinidad and Tobago on Friday night. Her lifeless body was found lying face down in a concrete drain along Marano Street in Tunapuna shortly after 7:50 p.m., following reports of gunshots to the E999 Command Center.
Campbell had sustained a gunshot wound to the upper back. Relatives and friends have described the tragedy as a senseless killing.
The Twin Island Republic has now recorded 196 murders for the year, sparking renewed concerns over crime and violence in the country.
Jamaican-Born Justice Winston Anderson Sworn In as CCJ President
In a historic moment during the CARICOM Heads of Government 49th Regular Meeting, Justice Winston Anderson, a native of rural St. Ann, Jamaica, was sworn in as the fourth President of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ).
Justice Anderson, who joined the CCJ 15 years ago as its youngest judge, used his inaugural address to call on CARICOM member states, particularly Jamaica, to honor their treaty commitments by adopting the CCJ as their final court of appeal.
โThis institution of excellence,โ he stated, was built on the legacy of former presidents Michael de la Bastide, Sir Dennis Byron, and Adrian Saunders.
Anderson’s legal journey spans service as General Counsel to CARICOM, lecturer at Cave Hill Campus, and graduate of the University of the West Indies.
Asia Reacts to Trump Tariffs: Japan and South Korea Seek Trade Relief
In global developments, Japan and South Korea announced on Tuesday their intention to begin urgent talks with the United States after former President Donald Trump revealed plans to impose sweeping tariffs effective August 1.
The tariffs, which range from 25% on countries such as Japan and South Korea to 40% on others, including Laos and Myanmar, are the latest development in Trumpโs revived trade war agenda.
Japanโs chief trade negotiator, Ryosuke Akazawa, confirmed the government will seek concessions, especially for the automotive sector, a cornerstone of the Japanese economy.
Affected nations now have a three-week negotiation window before the tariffs take effect.
