Barbados: Killer Deemed “Danger to Society” Jailed for Over 33 Years
A Barbados High Court judge has sentenced convicted killer Raheem Travonte Barnett to more than 33 years in prison for the fatal shooting of Oneill Chase, describing Barnett as “a danger to society.”
Barnett, of Regency Park, was convicted for the October 5, 2019, murder of Chase, who was shot twice in the head at close range on a public roadway. He was initially sentenced to 40 years.
However, after deductions for time spent on remand and procedural delays, Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell ordered that Barnett serve 33 years and 107 days at Dodds Prison.
In outlining aggravating factors, the judge cited the use of an illegal firearm, the unprovoked nature of the attack, the public location which endangered others, the failure to recover the weapon, and the suffering endured by the victim prior to death. She also highlighted the emotional trauma inflicted on Chase’s family.

The Government of Grenada has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment for residents, visitors, and international partners.
In response to a recent Level Two Travel Advisory issued by the United States Government, Grenadian authorities emphasized that the country continues to enjoy strong public safety, social stability, and effective law enforcement.
The government also noted that Grenada is home to a large and vibrant population of United States citizens who live, work, study, and invest across the tri-island state. These individuals, officials said, remain valued members of Grenadian society and benefit from the same security protections and public services as all residents.
United States: Fatal ICE Shooting Puts Nation on Edge
In the United States, the fatal shooting of a Minnesota woman by a U.S. immigration agent has heightened tensions across the country.
Thirty-seven-year-old Renee Nicole Good, a U.S. citizen and mother, was killed while sitting in her car in Minneapolis on Wednesday during a large-scale immigration enforcement operation.
The incident occurred as officers carried out what federal authorities described as the largest operation in the Department of Homeland Security’s history. Conflicting accounts have since emerged from state and federal officials regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The case has sparked widespread concern and debate, with observers warning that it could become another flashpoint in an already polarized national climate.
