Bodies of Two Men Killed by Police Remain Unclaimed as Third Man Shot Dead in Maraval
The bodies of two men shot and killed by police officers earlier on Friday in Mt Hope have not yet been identified or claimed, as law enforcement confirmed a third fatal police shooting later that same night in Maraval.
Police said the latest incident occurred around 10:47 p.m. on Friday when officers from the Gang Unit and the Western Division Task Force responded to intelligence indicating that a man dressed in dark clothing was walking with a firearm along Morne Coco Road, Maraval.
Upon arriving in the area, officers reportedly observed a man armed with a gun near a bar known as Fantasy Palace. The individual was later identified as 24-year-old Kyle Harewood of Clara Street, Le Platte Village, Maraval.
According to police, officers exited their vehicles and ordered Harewood to stop, drop the firearm, raise his hands, and walk toward them. He reportedly ignored the instructions and fled toward an unfinished building nearby.
Officers pursued and again called on Harewood to surrender after he entered the structure. Moments later, shots were fired, and Harewood was fatally wounded. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Earlier that same day, two other men were killed during separate police operations in Mt Hope. Up to late Saturday, police said both individuals remained unidentified and their bodies unclaimed.
Investigations into all three fatal shootings are ongoing.
Venezuelans in Colombia Rule Out Returning Home Despite Harsh Conditions
Despite facing poverty, insecurity, and limited opportunities in Colombia, many Venezuelan migrants say returning home is not an option anytime soon, even after recent political developments in Venezuela.
Families who fled Venezuela due to food shortages and economic collapse say life across the border remains difficult, but still preferable to the conditions they left behind.
Initial optimism followed the January 3 removal of longtime leader Nicolรกs Maduro, which briefly raised hopes of a political reset and a possible return home. However, those hopes quickly faded as power structures remained largely unchanged and uncertainty deepened over the countryโs future amid international disputes over Venezuelaโs oil sector.
Migrants living in border communities say they remain grateful for relative safety in Colombia, even as they struggle with low wages, rising living costs, and exposure to violence.
For many, the prospect of rebuilding their lives in Venezuela remains too risky, with no clear signs of stability or economic recovery.
Minnesota Man Says ICE Raid Left Him Humiliated and Traumatized
A Minnesota man has described feelings of fear, shame, and desperation after federal immigration officers forcibly entered his home and detained him during a late-night raid, despite him being a naturalized United States citizen.
The 56-year-old man, who goes by the name Scott, said officers broke down his door with guns drawn, handcuffed him, and dragged him outside into the snow wearing only shorts and Crocs. He was later wrapped in a blanket as neighbors looked on.
He was released and returned home hours later without explanation or apology.
Images of the incident circulated widely on social media, sparking renewed public concern over aggressive enforcement tactics as part of a broader immigration crackdown that has seen thousands of federal officers deployed across the Minneapolis area.
Civil liberties advocates have questioned whether officers are exceeding their authority, as scrutiny intensifies over the treatment of individuals during immigration operations.
