HEARTSICK AND FURIOUS: ALP WANTS URGENT ACTION AFTER BACK-TO-BACK TEEN TRAGEDIES

HGP Nightly News – The Leader of the Assembly for Liberty and Prosperity is not mincing words. Simona Broomes is angry, heartsick, and demanding answers. In a statement issued Thursday, Broomes and her party condemned what they describe as a systemic failure following two devastating incidents involving teenage mothers, one dead, another clinging to life.

“One child is dead under circumstances that remain unclear. Another is fighting for her life after being stabbed 25 times by the father of her child,” the statement read. The party is referring to 14-year-old Aleena Preetam, whose death remains shrouded in unanswered questions, and 15-year-old Tiana Chapman, who lies in intensive care after a brutal attack that left her with two dozen stab wounds.

Her alleged attacker? The father of her child. ALP is drawing a straight line between these two tragedies and what it calls a government asleep at the wheel. “These are not isolated incidents. These are symptoms of a system that is failing our children. Guyana is witnessing an alarming rate in teenage pregnancies, yet the Ministry, the Minister, and the Government continues to operate as though this crisis does not demand urgent, aggressive, and structured intervention.”

The party is demanding answers to basic questions that, according to them, remain unanswered: Where are the preventative programs? Where is the sustained community education? Where are the protective frameworks for vulnerable girls? Where is the accountability?

ALP reminded the nation that a 15-year-old is still a child, someone who belongs in school, protected, nurtured, and guided, not “navigating pregnancy, domestic violence, and life-threatening abuse.”
