The Government of Guyana is taking steps to make life easier for citizens with the planned roll-out of a Single Window System for building approvals and extensions—both domestic and commercial.

Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, said the “Faster, Easier, Smarter Guyana” Single Window System will streamline the process by allowing applications to be submitted, tracked, and processed through a centralized digital platform.

“The electronic single window system is basically a transformation, because what you’re doing is removing a purely paper system and reducing subjectivity,” Croal explained.

The service will also be available at the community level through Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs), ensuring easier access for citizens.

Senior officials, including Michael Kang, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, participated in the planning discussions. Local Government Minister Priya Manickchand emphasized that working through local bodies will simplify, expedite, and make the process more predictable, thereby sparing citizens unnecessary delays and confusion.

Government representatives emphasized that the initiative reflects their commitment to enhancing public service delivery by ensuring that approvals are handled efficiently, transparently, and in a citizen-friendly manner.

With preparations already underway, residents across all regions can expect the Single Window System to be rolled out through their NDCs, offering streamlined, community-based services for housing and development approvals.
