The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) on Friday confirmed the approval of six out of seven party lists submitted on Nomination Day for the September 1, 2025, General and Regional Elections.

The approved parties include:

  • Peopleโ€™s Progressive Party Civic (PPPC)
  • A Partnership for National Unity (APNU)
  • Alliance For Change (AFC)
  • WeInvest in Nation (WIN)
  • Assembly for Liberty and Prosperity (ALP)
  • Forward Guyana Movement

The Horizon and Star Party was the only submission not approved, though GECOM has not yet provided full details regarding its disqualification.

GECOM Commissioner Sase Gunraj told reporters that four of the six approved parties will contest all 10 administrative regions, while ALP will run in six areas and Forward Guyana in seven.

โ€œNow that you have approved lists, the issue of a joint list can be considered,โ€ Gunraj explained, noting that timelines for such submissions are outlined in GECOMโ€™s official schedule.

AFC Exploring Coalition to Challenge Ruling PPP

Meanwhile, AFC Chairman David Patterson confirmed that his party is actively exploring the formation of a joint list with other opposition groups to unseat the Peopleโ€™s Progressive Party.

โ€œWe are looking at all possibilities, all avenues to depose the PPP,โ€ Patterson said. โ€œIf our analysis says that is a viable route, we will take it.โ€

He added that discussions are ongoingโ€”not only about joint electoral lists, but also coordinating personnel for polling stations. Patterson noted that all parties except the PPP are currently involved in these talks.

With the final list of contestants now approved, the next phase of the electoral campaign is officially underway. GECOMโ€™s election timeline indicates that parties now have exactly 45 days to make their case to voters before election day.
