GEORGETOWN, GUYANA — In a landmark move for the nation’s agricultural sector, the Ministry of Agriculture officially launched the ‘Farmers Connect GY’ mobile application on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. The app is now live and available for download, following a successful unveiling ceremony at the National Cultural Centre.

Developed in collaboration with the National Data Management Authority (NDMA), the app is a cornerstone of the government’s push toward a “Digital Guyana,” aimed at modernizing traditional farming into a precision-driven, data-ready system.

Key Features: Agriculture at Your Fingertips

The ‘Farmers Connect GY’ app is designed to be a one-stop digital hub for farmers, fisherfolk, and agro-processors, offering tools that were previously inaccessible in real-time.

  • AI Farming Assistant: Farmers can upload images of crops or livestock to receive immediate feedback and diagnostics for pests and diseases.
  • Soil & Crop Suitability: The app includes a comprehensive soil map, advising users on the best crops to plant based on their specific administrative region and soil type.
  • Real-Time Market Prices: Users can access daily price updates for various crops and livestock across all ten regions, enabling strategic selling and buying decisions.
  • Weather & Risk Management: Integrated with the Guyana Hydrometeorological Office, the platform provides live weather updates and allows farmers to report flooding or blocked drainage infrastructure directly to the Ministry.
  • Direct Extension Services: Farmers can request technical support or advice from extension officers via the app, reducing the need for in-person visits to ministry offices.

Economic Impact: Boosting Yields and Profits

During the launch, Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha emphasized that the app closes long-standing gaps in communication and market access. Minister within the Ministry of Agriculture, Vikash Ramkissoon, added that the ultimate goal is the financial empowerment of the producer.

“Farmers can increase their yields, they can reduce their cost of production, and the objective of all of that is to ensure that you, the farmers, can earn more and be profitable,” Minister Ramkissoon stated.

How to Access the App

The Ministry of Agriculture has made the app accessible to the wide majority of smartphone users in Guyana:

  • Android Users: The app is currently available for download on the Google Play Store under the name “Farmers Connect GY”.
  • iOS Users: The app is expected to be available in the Apple App Store shortly.
  • Registration: Farmers were encouraged to sign up immediately to join the centralized national farmers’ database, which is now fully integrated with this platform.
