DRUG TRAFFICKING DUO CHARGED…FOREIGN WEED FOUND IN BARREL

DRUG CONVICT LEMMY CAMPBELL WAS ARRESTED AGAIN IN A MAJOR FOREIGN WEED BUST AT CJIA

GEORGETOWN, GUYANA — Convicted drug trafficker Lemmy Campbell is back behind bars after attempting to clear a barrel containing over 1.5 kg of foreign marijuana at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), La Parfaite Harmonie Cargo Shed.

Campbell and Micaia Andrews were arrested by agents from the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) and the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) during a coordinated operation on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

A search of the shipment revealed 1.502 kg of imported cannabis, which investigators say had been shipped into the country concealed in a barrel. CANU head Jim Singh confirmed the bust in a statement to the media.

Campbell is no stranger to narcotics charges. Nearly 16 years ago, he, his wife, and two others were convicted in Barbados for marijuana and cocaine trafficking and sentenced to 20 years. The Barbados Court of Appeal later ordered their release on time served.

Following the CJIA seizure, CANU agents launched a separate raid at a residence in North East La Penitence, where they uncovered a black garbage bag containing:

  • Empty foreign Ziploc bags
  • Rolling papers
  • Small containers typically used for drug packaging

Additionally, a second set of barrels yielded a further 16.4 kg of foreign cannabis.

On Friday morning, Micaia Andrews appeared before Magistrate Fortune at the Friendship Magistrate’s Court, where he pleaded not guilty to drug trafficking. He was granted $300,000 bail, with the conditions that he:

  • Lodge his passport
  • Report to CANU every other Friday starting May 16

However, Lemmy Campbell was denied bail and remanded to prison. He faces charges of possession of 1.502 kg of cannabis and aiding Andrews in trafficking narcotics.

Both men are scheduled to return to court on June 9, 2025.
