Attorney-at-Law Vanessa Thomas has issued a stern warning that legislative reform and police interventions alone are insufficient to address the alarming rise in femicide in Guyana.
Speaking out on the crisis, Thomas stressed that while laws and enforcement are necessary, they fail to reach the root causes of violence against women. She argued that the country has entered an era where drastic and immediate measures must be taken to confront the deep cultural, social, and systemic factors driving gender-based violence.
Her call adds to the growing chorus of voices demanding that policymakers, community leaders, and civil society organizations act with urgency to protect women’s lives and end the cycle of femicide.
