The A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) has finalized its election manifesto after a four-year consultation process with Guyanese citizens and professionals. The announcement was made by Aubrey Norton, the APNU presidential candidate, during a press conference on Friday.
“We did not wait for this late hour to pretend to engage in so-called consultations like the PPP has,” Norton declared, taking a swipe at the ruling party’s recent manifesto activities.
Norton said the document reflects comprehensive internal discussions, coalition consensus, and advice from subject matter experts. He emphasized that the manifesto is designed to outline a people-centered development strategy, built on principles of economic justice and responsible governance of the oil sector.
Manifesto Priorities
Key highlights of the APNU manifesto include:
- Eliminating poverty
- Guaranteeing every household a livable income
- Creating a comprehensive social protection system
- Providing top-class education, health, and social services
- Achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals
- Protecting Guyana’s territorial integrity
- Distributing oil wealth directly to citizens
“We will be relentless in selling our main message of putting people first and putting resources from oil in the hands of the Guyanese people,” Norton pledged.
Call for Unity Amid Campaign Tensions
Norton also used the platform to caution supporters against falling into racial or political hostility, referencing an incident during Nomination Day where two PPP supporters were seen amidst APNU crowds.
“Every APNU supporter there knew that a plot was afoot to stage an incident,” he said, accusing the PPP of attempting provocation with drone surveillance.
Despite the charged atmosphere of the campaign season, Norton urged restraint, discipline, and peaceful advocacy.
