Walton-Desir Confirms She Will Represent Forward Guyana in Parliament

She has confirmed what many political pundits had already suspected — Amanza Walton-Desir will be the face of the Forward Guyana Movement (FGM) in the 13th Parliament.
Speaking with the media on Wednesday, Walton-Desir directly affirmed that she will take up the party’s lone parliamentary seat. Just one day earlier, during an appearance on the programme Reset, she had outlined her first priority in the National Assembly: advocating for electoral reform.
“This has been a burning issue for our movement and was raised multiple times on the campaign trail. As of right now, the configuration of GECOM cannot reflect the political reality. It has to be reformed,” she said.
Walton-Desir declared that the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) is no longer effective in its current form, stressing that both FGM and WIN must be represented on the Commission alongside the traditional parties.
A long-standing member of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) and former shadow minister of foreign affairs, Walton-Desir resigned from the PNCR in June 2025 before launching her new movement, Forward Guyana. She later formed a coalition with Nigel London’s The People’s Movement (TPM) and Darwin Best’s Vigilant Political Action Committee (VPAC), creating the United Political Front, now known as FGM.
The coalition secured a parliamentary seat in the September 1 general and regional elections, with approximately 4,300 votes. Walton-Desir will now return to familiar ground in Parliament — this time representing her own political party.
