TRACEY KHAN AN EMBODIMENT OF FAITH, PERSEVERANCE, AND DESTINY FROM THE VILLAGE OF  ROSE HALL TOWN TO THE MEDIA LANDSCAPE IN NY

— In celebration of Women’s History Month 2026, Nightly News is proud to feature a woman whose life story reads like a masterclass in resilience. From the quiet countryside of Rose Hall Town, Berbice, to the fast-paced media world of New York, Tracey Khan has proven that destiny is not a matter of chance but of choice.

Now recognized by the Caribbean Business Network as one of the “Ones to Watch” for 2026, Tracey’s journey is a testament to the power of faith, the strength of mixed heritage, and the enduring bond of family.

Foundations of Faith and “Berbice Pride”

Tracey credits her core values of integrity and perseverance to a God-fearing household led by two formidable women: her mother, Roxanne Khan, and her grandmother, Shairoon Nesha.

  • A Grandmother’s Strength: Her East Indian grandmother was the bedrock of her character, fiercely defending Tracey’s mixed Indo-African heritage against societal and even familial prejudices.
  • The Father Figure: Despite his struggles with substance abuse, Tracey speaks with profound affection for her father, a man of “natural business acumen” who taught her the value of contentment during their early days selling at the Rose Hall Market.
  • The Big Sister: As the eldest of seven siblings, Tracey embraced a sense of responsibility early on, a trait that would later define her advocacy-driven journalism.

The 17-Year-Old Trailblazer

Tracey’s career began out of necessity and a “borrowed shirt.” At age 17, eager to support her mother and siblings, she applied for a position at Little Rock TV Station in Berbice.

“I realized that dedication and passion outweigh appearances,” Tracey shared, reminiscing about competing against better-dressed candidates while wearing a cousin’s shirt.

Her genuine enthusiasm won over the recruiters, launching a career that would take her to the National Communications Network (NCN) in Georgetown, INews Guyana, and Capitol News. Her fearless investigative reporting alongside colleagues like Fareeza Haniff and Kurt Campbell even helped reunite a missing child with their family—a highlight of her early professional life.

A Platform for the People

For Tracey, journalism was never just about the “scoop”; it was a tool for life-saving intervention.

  • The $1 Million Miracle: Tracey recounts the story of a woman who needed a $1 million surgery she couldn’t afford. Tracey reached out to renowned surgeon Dr. Amarnauth Dukhi. The surgery was a success, and years later, the two reunited in Queens, NYC, where the woman credited Tracey with saving her life.
  • The Conduit: Tracey remains humble about these impacts, stating, “It was not my own doing, but a platform given to me by God to connect people in need with those who could help.”

Conquering the Big Apple

Today, Tracey is a prominent voice in the North American Caribbean diaspora. She has successfully transitioned from a reporter to a media mogul and freelancer for global brands.

  • One Media Management: Her own public relations firm based in the USA.
  • Global Penmanship: Her work is featured in Essence, Sheen Magazine, Femi, Hype Hair, and the Caribbean Life newspaper.
  • Managing Editor: She oversees Music Exclusives, bridging the gap between Caribbean culture and international entertainment and fashion.

A Legacy in the Making

As she prepares to publish a work honoring her grandmother’s struggle against racial prejudice, Tracey remains “unapologetic” about her roots. She encourages young people from modest backgrounds to never forget where they came from once they reach the top.

Tracey Khan’s story is a powerful reminder that while we cannot choose our beginnings, we can certainly script our endings.
