“MY CHILD IS NOT A FLOOR CLOTH ” – MOTHER SPEAKS OUT DEMANDS JUSTICE AFTER CHILD DRAGGED BY WELFARE OFFICERS

GEORGETOWN, GUYANA — The mother of the 15-year-old girl seen in a viral, disturbing video being dragged across the pavement by officers of the Child Care and Protection Agency (CCPA) has broken her silence. In an emotional interview with Nightly News on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, she rejected the Ministry of Human Services’ current response, stating that the mere suspension of the officers is insufficient for the trauma inflicted on her child.

The incident, which occurred at a city bus park during a “truancy sweep,” has sparked nationwide outrage and raised serious questions about the professional conduct of the state’s primary child welfare body.

The Encounter: “She was on her way to school.”

The mother clarified that her daughter is not a “runaway” or a “troublemaker,” but a student who was simply running an errand before classes.

  • The Timeline: The 15-year-old had stopped at the park around 8:00 a.m. to deliver a “scout” (skirt) to a young lady before heading to school.
  • The Refusal to Listen: The mother believes the entire ordeal could have been avoided if the officers—one in a green top and another in a pink dress—had taken five minutes to speak with the child rather than resorting to immediate physical force.
  • The “Dragging”: The video captures the girl being dragged along the ground while wearing her school uniform. “Mommy, I just left them for drag me… I feel shame,” the daughter reportedly told her mother, describing how her skin was “scraped up” on the ground.

Psychological Trauma and “Zero Satisfaction”

While Minister of Human Services Dr. Vindhya Persaud announced that the officers were sent on immediate administrative leave, the mother described this as a “slap in the face,” given the severity of the abuse.

  • “Treating Her Like a Dog”: The mother accused the welfare officers of practicing the very abuse they are hired to prevent. “Them is the welfare… teaching us parents not to abuse our kids… and the same thing they’re abusing my daughter,” she stated.
  • Mental Scarring: The mother emphasized that her daughter is now emotionally and mentally traumatized, feeling a deep sense of shame as the video continues to circulate.
  • Family Resolve: The family has vowed not to remain silent, with the mother asserting, “My child is not a floor cloth. She is not a dog. She is a human being.”

The Demand for Full Accountability

The mother is calling for the legal system to go beyond internal disciplinary measures.

Broader Scrutiny of CPA Operations

The incident has triggered renewed scrutiny of the “daily inspections” at transportation hubs launched by the CCPA and the Guyana Police Force early last month. While the operations aim to reduce loitering and truancy, critics argue that the “heavy-handed” tactics used on this 15-year-old demonstrate a systemic failure in how vulnerable minors are approached by the state.
