Guyana Squash Association Releases 2026 Competition Calendar

The Guyana Squash Association has officially released its 2026 calendar of events, outlining a packed year of local, regional, and international competition for Guyanese athletes.

The season opens in February with the BCQS Masters Squash Tournament at the Georgetown Club courts. This will be followed by a series of junior and handicap tournaments both locally and overseas, including participation in the Junior South American Championships in Paraguay and the Under-23 South American Championships in Peru.

As the year progresses, athletes will contest Junior Nationals, Senior Skills Level tournaments, and the National Championships. Guyanaโ€™s squash players are also scheduled to compete in major multi-sport and continental events, including theย Central American and Caribbean Games, theย PanAm Qualifiers, the PanAm Junior Open, and the South American Games.

The final phase of the season will feature the Inter-Club Championships, national team events, the CASA Championships in Jamaica, a skills-level competition in Georgetown, and prestigious international open tournaments in Canada and the United States.


Guyanese Jockeys Take First Step Toward International Licences

Guyanaโ€™s horse racing industry recorded a major breakthrough as leading jockeys Yovin Kissoonchand, Colin Ross, and Ronaldo Appadu successfully passed their physical riding examinations in Barbados.

The achievement represents the first critical step toward securing international jockey licences, which would allow the riders to compete across the Caribbean and on the global stage. The process is being overseen by racing administrator Victor Cheeseman and is strongly supported by international horseman Robert Malcolm Peirce.

Officials say the remaining assessments and administrative requirements are expected to be completed by the weekend, opening new opportunities for Guyanese jockeys while strengthening youth development and advancing long-term plans within the local racing fraternity.


Harpy Eagles Begin Preparations for 2026 Season

The Guyana Harpy Eagles have begun preparations for the 2026 cricket season, holding their first training session on Thursday at the National Track and Field Centre.

With official menโ€™s season dates yet to be confirmed, the franchise has commenced regular fitness and conditioning sessions focused on form, endurance, and overall readiness. Team officials say consistent training and the integration of emerging talent are key priorities as the Harpy Eagles position themselves for upcoming regional competitions.


CWI Releases Fixtures for 2026 Womenโ€™s T20 Blaze

Cricket West Indies has released the full fixtures for the 2026 Womenโ€™s T20 Blaze Championships, which will be staged at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.

Defending champions Guyana Womenโ€™s Cricket Team are in full preparation mode as they aim to retain their title against strong regional opposition. The tournament bowls off on January 13, with Guyana facing the Windward Islands in the opening match.

The competition will run through six rounds until January 23, followed by the commencement of the Womenโ€™s Super50 Cup on January 27.


Kevin Sinclair Previews Foundation Tapeball Tournament

West Indies all-format cricketer Kevin Sinclair has confirmed that preparations are in high gear for his foundationโ€™s upcoming tapeball cricket tournament, scheduled to bowl off from 9:30 a.m. on Sunday at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground.

Speaking with HGPTV Sports Pulse, Sinclair said the event is designed to give back to the community while providing competitive opportunities for young and aspiring cricketers, reinforcing grassroots development within the sport.
