Campbell’s ITF Appointment Marks Major Milestone for Guyana Tennis

The Guyana Tennis Association (GTA) is celebrating a significant international achievement following the appointment of its President, Cristy Campbell, to the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Advantage All Committee for the 2026–2027 term.

The prestigious selection places Guyana firmly on the global tennis stage and represents a proud moment for the local sporting fraternity. Campbell, a former national women’s champion in both singles and doubles, continues to make an impact well beyond her competitive playing days.

In addition to leading the Guyana Tennis Association, she currently serves as Vice President of the Guyana Olympic Association and Vice Chairperson of the National Sports Commission, reinforcing her influence in shaping sport policy and development locally and regionally.


KFC Goodwill Schools Football Tournament Explodes into Action

Football excitement surged on Saturday as the 2025 KFC Goodwill Schools Football Tournament kicked off with four matches at the Ministry of Education Ground in Georgetown.

Defending champions Chase Academic Foundation sent a resounding message with a staggering 24–1 victory over ACEA Bahamas. Captain Bryan Wharton delivered a masterclass, scoring nine goals, while Isiah Ifill added a sparkling hat-trick. Doubles came from Onesi Dunn, Shaquan David, and Whitney King, with further goals from Neeaz Baksh, Nyron Barrow, Mark Glasgow, Kemron Pellew, and Damani Hardy.

In a tightly contested second match, Kingston College edged West Ruimveldt Secondary 6–5, powered by clutch doubles from Davion Clarke and Abriel Fisher, alongside goals from Ricardo Gibbon and Nthanda Scott. Despite strong efforts from West Ruimveldt, Kingston held firm.

Meanwhile, STSN Suriname defeated Brazil’s Jose Vierra School 2–0, while St. Benedict College of Trinidad produced a commanding 4–0 victory over Annai Secondary.


President’s Futsal Championship Delivers More Drama

Day three of the 2025 President’s Futsal Championship produced another thrilling round of fixtures at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Friday.

In schoolboys’ round-robin action, Brickdam Secondary and Annandale Secondary played to a 1–1 draw, while Dolphin Secondary secured a solid 5–3 win over Vreed-en-Hoop Secondary. Lodge Secondary dominated North Ruimveldt Secondary 4–0, and Hope Secondary edged St. Stanislaus College 2–1.

Senior knockout action saw West Side Ballers narrowly defeat Broad Street 3–2, while Kingston delivered a commanding 5–2 victory over Stevedore. Sophia Ballers overcame The Finishers 3–1, and Melanie posted an identical 3–1 win over Street Vybz. Laing Avenue dominated Gladiators 5–1, before Stabroek Ballers closed the night with an emphatic 6–0 victory over Albouystown.


Guyana U-13s Take Early Control Against Barbados

Guyana’s Under-13 boys cricket team made an impressive start to their five-match 40-over bilateral series against Barbados, securing commanding victories in the opening two fixtures at the Lusignan Community Centre Ground.

On Saturday, Barbados posted 177-7 after being sent in, with Natarie Lavine top-scoring with 37. Guyana’s bowling was led by Sahid Gajnabi (2-33), supported by Makai Dowlin, Jasani Craig, and Ashton Collins. In reply, Guyana cruised to 178-3, driven by a superb 79 from captain Lomar Seecharran and an unbeaten 31 from Dowlin.

On Sunday, Guyana tightened its grip with a nine-wicket victory, bowling Barbados out for 138. Lavine again led the scoring with 65, but Guyana’s bowlers, spearheaded by Deshawn Ramnauth (3-21), proved decisive. Guyana then reached the target with ease, as Seecharran remained unbeaten on 82, sealing a 2–0 series lead.

The third match is scheduled for Tuesday at Lusignan.


GCB Expands Guyana U-13 Squad

Meanwhile, the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) has announced the inclusion of seven additional players to the national Under-13 squad for the remaining three matches of the series against Barbados.

The new additions are Brandon Grimmond, Afridi Khan, Daquan Lewis, Aaron DeCosta, Daniel Johnson, Ajay Kissoon, and Hezekiah Hohenkirk.

According to the GCB, the decision is aimed at widening the talent pool, providing greater opportunities, and fostering broader youth participation in cricket.
