The Gambit Group, in collaboration with the Guyana Chess Federation, celebrated International Women’s Day with a showcase of tactical brilliance at the School of the Nations on March 6.
- The Champion: Divya Persaud delivered a masterful performance to emerge as the overall champion of the Rapid Chess Tournament.
- Youth Excellence: The tournament highlighted the rising stars of the game, with Lusianna Farlot securing the Best U-16 title. Gabrielle Mohabir and Amaya Sharma took home the Best U-14 and Best U-12 titles, respectively.
Basketball: Ramlall Sisters Lead Rosemount Irish to Minnesota State Title
In a thrilling display of Guyanese talent on the international stage, sisters Amisha and Ashna Ramlall propelled the Rosemount Irish to a 63-62 victory over the Hopkins Royals to capture the 2026 Minnesota State High School Girls Basketball Tournament.
- The Stats: Amisha Ramlall was unstoppable, recording 20 points and 8 assists, while Ashna Ramlall added a crucial 16 points in the one-point nail-biter.
- National Pride: Both sisters are key members of Guyana’s Senior Women’s Basketball Team and were instrumental in the nation’s 2nd-place finish at the 2025 Caribbean Championships. Their success in the U.S. underscores the high caliber of Guyanese basketball talent.
Cricket: Dwain Dick’s Century Powers Headquarters into T20 Semi-Finals
Action in the 2026 Commissioner of Police T20 Cup heated up at Eve Leary on Monday, as the defending champions, Headquarters, made a loud statement.
- The Century: Player of the Match Dwain Dick bludgeoned a remarkable unbeaten 108, leading Headquarters to an 8-wicket victory.
- The Chase: After the Combined Regional Divisions (1, 7, 8 & 9) were restricted to 178-8, Headquarters raced to 181-2 in just 15.2 overs, securing their spot in the semi-finals.
Cricket: Enmore Honors Late National Cricketer Harriman Joseph
A somber yet beautiful ceremony took place at the Enmore Community Centre Ground on Sunday as the American Cricket Society (ACS) paid tribute to the late Harriman Joseph.
- The Tribute: A ceremonial tree was planted in honor of Joseph, a former National U-19 batter and Enmore native who passed away in the USA last January at age 73.
- Attendees: ACS representatives Terry Hastoo and Akeem Dewar joined former national wicket-keeper Sheik Mohammed and family members Sandy and Chad Joseph to celebrate the legacy of a man who never forgot his roots.
Cricket: Rajendra Chandrika Guides Enmore to Victory Over ACS
Following the memorial, the competitive spirit returned to the pitch for Match 3 of the 2026 ACS Tour to Guyana.
- The Collapse: Batting first, ACS struggled against the bowling of Richard Chaturia and Alex Mahase, who both picked up 4 wickets, bowling the visitors out for 135.
