PNCR Moves to Recall MP Geeta Chandan-Edmond After Presidential Endorsement

The People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) has initiated the process to recall Member of Parliament Geeta Chandan-Edmond following her public endorsement of President Irfaan Ali for a second term—an action the party says violates its core principles and erodes voter trust.
Speaking exclusively to HGP Nightly News, PNCR Central Executive Member Ganesh Mahipaul confirmed that the party’s leadership met at the Central Executive level and decided that Chandan-Edmond could “no longer represent the party’s interests.”
“I think she betrayed the PNCR… and she betrayed me,” Mahipaul said. “The PNCR extracted her to represent our interests. Her failure to act now has forced the party’s hand.”
Chandan-Edmond’s support for President Ali came during a recent parliamentary sitting, sending shockwaves through PNCR ranks. Her actions, Mahipaul said, have compelled the party to begin formal recall proceedings, which involve writing to the Representative of the List.
“We gave her a brief opportunity to resign voluntarily,” Mahipaul stated. “Now the party must take its rightful steps.”
The party has described the endorsement as a violation of the principle of party-list representation, particularly significant given that the General and Regional Elections are just months away.
Mahipaul made it clear that Chandan-Edmond’s case will not be the last, as the PNCR intends to hold all defectors accountable.
Two other former Region Four officials—Daniel Seeram, former Regional Chairman, and Samuel Sandy, former Vice Chairman—have also resigned from the party and publicly endorsed the ruling People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPPC).
“One would have expected loyalty and principle to take precedence,” Mahipaul added.
As tensions mount, the PNCR appears to be drawing a hard line against internal dissent.
