GEORGETOWN, GUYANA — One year after its initial announcement, Houston-based Unite Oil & Gas International has officially reached a major milestone by registering its local franchise under the name United Oil and Gas Guyana. The announcement was made by President and CEO Yatchze Luchin during the 2026 Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo at the Marriott Hotel.

The move marks the company’s formal entry into Guyana’s booming energy sector, with plans to establish a physical office in Georgetown and rapidly expand its local team.

Expertise and Caribbean Focus

Yatchze Luchin, an industry veteran with roots at energy giants like Noble and Chevron, emphasized that the company is positioning itself as a strategic partner to support Guyana’s national energy goals.

  • Specialized Talent: The company is deploying a multi-disciplinary team of geoscientists, engineers, and petrophysicists to provide high-level expertise in reservoir management, engineering, and strategic planning.
  • Regional Hub: United Oil and Gas Guyana is part of a broader “Caribbean-heavy” strategy that aims to replicate the successful partnership models the firm has already established in West African nations such as the Republic of Congo.

Strategic Investments: Shallow Water and Onshore

A key differentiator for the new franchise is its focus on specific, high-value segments of the market:

  • Shallow Water & Onshore: Luchin revealed that the company intends to invest in shallow water and onshore developments, aligning with the government’s push for diversified energy resources.
  • Marginal Field Expertise: Leveraging its history of maximizing resource recovery in marginal fields, the company plans to use innovative, sustainable techniques to extend reservoir life while minimizing environmental impact.
  • Sustainable Practices: The CEO underscored a commitment to “pioneer sustainable practices” by utilizing advanced technologies to reduce the carbon footprint of its operations.

Local Content and Workforce Empowerment

Central to the franchise’s registration is a commitment to the Local Content Act. United Oil and Gas Guyana plans to build its operations around a dedicated Guyanese Country Manager and a local team.

  • Specialized Training: The company will provide technical training programs to empower local talent, ensuring that Guyanese professionals are at the forefront of project execution.
  • Inclusive Growth: Luchin expressed a vision for a collaborative environment that promotes inclusivity and provides new opportunities for the surrounding community.
  • Ready to Scale: With registration complete, the company is on the verge of opening its Georgetown office and is scaling its “employee complement” to meet upcoming project demands.

“We are focusing heavily on the Caribbean region and we are looking to bring our expertise to help and support the goals of the country,” CEO Yatchze Luchin told Nightly News.
